Seymour Arms Mini Bus

Jo McGhee on June 9th, 2010

We are proud to announce that we have invested in a mini bus. This will enable fishing parties from Scotland and Ireland (or anywhere else in the world for that matter) to fly into Bristol Airport and be picked up and ferried back and forth to the lakes. Price is included in the B&B package.

This service is already proving popular and we have been busy shuttling Mickey Toal’s party from Ireland this week.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us for further details.

Blagdon is still fishing well. Fished with John Wingrove on the 18th of May and John caught an 8lb 3 0z brownie off Green Lawn on a black and green FM classic gold head. It turned out to be the largest fish caught on Blagdon so far this year. Well done John!

23rd March 2010 - Opening Day on Blagdon

Jo McGhee on March 23rd, 2010

Cold easterly wind made bank angling very difficult. Boat fishing was far more successful with a number of limits coming out of the top end. Most successful flys seemed to be orange and black lures. Some good bags of fish were taken.

Fishing Season 2010 - Let’s hope it’s a good one !

Jo McGhee on March 2nd, 2010

Chris & I would like to thank all those fishermen who have kindly booked with us already this year. It has been an encouraging start to the year.

Several fishermen have asked me about an old buzzer pattern called “Bell’s Buzzer”, named after Captain Bell who used to live in Blagdon. We thought we would share this information with you - you never know it might be the little gem you have been looking for!

Bell’s Buzzer, after entries by C.F. Walker in “lake flies and their imitation”.

Abdomen: Gut or nylon in “varying shades, taking note of the predominant colours at each period of the year and thicknesses to match the larvae”. Dyed shades include “insect green (Dylon shade 72)”, claret (Dylon shade 30), “arterial blood red (Dylon shade 86)”, orange (Dylon shade 55).

Thorax: Ostrich, condor or peacock herl – natural.

Wing buds: Badger hackle tied as a beard so that the ends of the black section of the hackle correspond to the end of the thorax. The white fibres are then clipped to form the correct profile of the wing buds while maintaining a white edge.

Hook: Redditch “new scale 00 – 3 (18-10 standard sizes), downturned eye.

We hope you have a good fishing season - tight lines.

Satisfied Customer

Just wanted to share the views of a happy fishermen who has recently stayed with us:

Hi Jo, Ain’t life fantastic ‘eh’? The fact of just Emailing you has put me in such a good mood after sharing a wonderful few days with you, Chris and your staff, who now feel like part of my family. Jenny’s dinners, Keith’s Breakfast, Elain’s smile and after spending half an hour with Tracy, I now know the history of all residents in Blagdon! (Some of this info I will be using for blackmail purposes to help fund my next visit with you.) Please convey Gunther and my thanks to all and I look forward with great anticipation to letting you all pamper and wait on me hand and foot again.

The attachment is a photo of myself as asked, and as most people tend to send flattering pictures, I hope this one of myself will not disappoint.

(others can be sent if required). Every time I drive up for the day to fish Blagdon or Chew I will definitely pop in, even if its just for a pint but my preference will be to stay. I will Email you on occasions with things I hope you will enjoy and please feel free to do the same.

Fondest regards  Bob Hickman.
